Private Pottery Experience in a Santa Fe Artist’s Studio
Step inside a working pottery studio on historic Canyon Road and spend a few hours slowing down, creating, and connecting with clay.
This private two-hour experience offers an intimate look into the pottery process with personal guidance from artist Maria Joseph Evans of Red Sky Pottery. Whether it’s your first time at the wheel or you have experience with clay, each session is relaxed, welcoming, and tailored to you.
The experience begins with a wheel-throwing demonstration before you settle in at your own wheel. you will be guided through the process of preparing the clay, finding your center, and creating your own one-of-a-kind pieces.
Unlike a traditional group class, the studio is reserved just for you and your guests, allowing space to explore, ask questions, and enjoy the creative process at your own pace.
All clay, materials, tools, and aprons are provided. After your visit, Maria will carefully trim, glaze, and fire your finished pieces. Completed pottery will be ready for pickup or can be shipped directly to your home once the process is complete.

“My wife and I went to Santa Fe for an anniversary. Everything about the trip was memorable, but our visit to Red Sky Pottery was easily the highlight. We had a wonderful couple of hours “throwing” pots (as I now know the correct term) in Maria’s lovely private studio. Maria made us feel so welcome and is a terrific instructor and guide, striking exactly the right balance between letting you get on with it yourself and gentle course-corrections when needed. Add to that, she’s a lovely person and fun to be around. We’re excitedly awaiting shipment of our pots when they are baked and glazed; they’ll be a permanent reminder of a magical experience! You should do this!”
“A cozy experience with a great teacher, Red Sky pottery is a can’t miss experience. The studio is an introvert’s paradise, crafting in a calm relaxing environment with pleasant music. The one-on-one session was also very helpful, I was incredibly rusty on a wheel and Maria helped me immensely. Also, you get to keep your creation and use it however you see fit! This was the highlight of my trip, I can’t recommend it enough!”
“This is by far the best part of our week long vacation! Getting a one on one pottery class with such a kind and talented artist is a once in a lifetime experience. Plus she glazes and fires your pottery and sends it to you which the other classes do not offer. I love knowing that not only have I learned a relaxing new hobby, but I get to keep and display my art. I would recommend hurrying and making an appointment before her schedule fills up. This is a quintessential Santa Fe experience.

“Maria was fabulous! Her instructions and positive energy were so helpful. She made the process approachable and fun. My daughter and I had the best time and cannot wait to come back. The studio is charming with picturesque trees and sounds of the creek right outside the window.”
“I recently took a pottery-making class with Maria while on a girls’ trip to Santa Fe, and it was truly the highlight of our entire trip! Maria was incredibly personable, knowledgeable, and made the whole experience so much fun from start to finish.
She had such a warm, welcoming energy and created a space where we all felt comfortable to be creative (and a little silly!). Whether you’re a complete beginner or have some experience with pottery, Maria meets you where you’re at and guides you with patience and encouragement.
We laughed, got our hands delightfully messy, and each walked away with a handmade piece to remember the trip by. It was such a special and memorable way to connect with each other and with the artistic spirit of Santa Fe.
If you’re considering it—do it! You won’t regret it.”
